it appears the cold water has settled in and i am not going to be doing any more open water swimming here in newport...i.e. snow on my car the other morning!
since arriving here in newport i have done some great swims and the best was the group swim from 40 steps to second beach...too much fun...we did a few more swims after that then the group just dissolved, just like that.
katrina and i weren't quite ready for THAT so we decided we needed MORE, so i met her at church with our swim suits under our church clothes and we went to second beach--which also had the marathon running at the same time...we got in our wet suits did an out to the clambake and back to shore which was great, COLD, but fun. on the way back we ran into something i have NEVER seen in all my years of ocean swimming....we ran into 2 swams in front of us..how cool is that? of course i tried to get close and one flew away...getting that big old swan body off the water was pretty impressive.
so, now it is basically pool swimming for me, and i really enjoy my new found swimming buddies, who incidently are becoming biking buddies as well...i did a great bike ride with doug and paul a few weeks ago and they showed me the way around the island...kathy had taken me a week earlier and was my tour guide as well...alas, the winter is here, so along with my swimming biking is probable done as well...now indoors for spinning...
i enjoy the cold air and i loaded up on warm clothes and love my long walks. believe it or not but i get the urge to RUN, and really feel like it, but NOPE, not gonna do it, this artificial knee has to last me so long, and i really don't want to jeapardize it, BUT i do plan on buying ice skates and new ski boots and taking to slopes and rinks this winter-- with my brace no less!!

so it is september 9, 2010 and i figured i would try to start up a blog again...since my life has taken a dramatic change and things are really different.
i left hawaii in june...went to san diego for a brief day (dropped off stuff at my sister maureens house ) and headed to lake tahoe with maroula to meet up with the girls for the lake tahoe swim thanks to deb and her diligence to get us in! and it worked. it was great seeing tamaki, ruth, maroula, deb, and unfortunately gaylin couldn't swim with us, i did get to see her in san diego hoping for a healthy pregnancy! we had a great weekend and it was great catching up with them all and i WANT TO DO THAT RACE EVERY YEAR! to much fun.
i stayed at maureens in FREEZING COLD san diego for about a week my nephew and his wife and kids were there from ny. so i got to meet the great neices and my great nephew of michaels boy...GAWD are they adorable and too much fun....i had fun with the fam, ellen was back from spain and spent som time with her as well...and as much time with maureen as feasible possible. also caught up with michael margaret, and elizabeth andsarah. ..crazy having a BIG extended family!
so then i came to newport and settled on my new HOUSE..free standing big back yard solid foundation cottage.... no buyers remorse here...
After that i zipped over to ireland to see sean and then we cruised up NOrth to see evan and jean, also saw roberta, graham, stevie tanya, paul, and almost all their children! great irish cousins!
spent a healthy amount of time in waterville, VERY WELL KNOWN for charlie chaplin's abode that his daughter now owns. well, our place in waterville fell through, so sean called the woman who looks after our house and she hooked us up with a place to stay...no other than charlie chaplins' daughters home! which is for sale, btw. it was amazing right on the water gorgeous. then we ventured to dingle and did some hikes, bikes and treks. OH, and a triathlon that sean signed us up for! it was fun, but we came in seconde by 17 seconds...uggghhh.
that water was FREEZING.
so now, i made it to newport, and EVERYONE here is absolutely wonderful. i have never felt so welcome anywhere. the command is great the community is great, the nieghbors are awsome....
not much to complain about.
so this house was turnkey...but since the neighbor is a painter...the entire house is painted now1 and his wife who has an incredible eye for decor helped with the paint, she is amazing. THEN i had to put innew carpet, get a lawn guy cuz i don't have any lawn paraphenalia, and THEN i realized *in front of the previous owner, the sink MOVES! it was not secure..so now, i am getting new counter tops for my kitchen...this house will be in tip to shape!
but i do love it, the movers brought my stuff and i am working on putting everything away..why do i have so much crap? my bedroom is great as is the downstairs sans the junk.... oh my new home is getting cozy!
of course i used my swimmers antenae and found the local swimmers and did a few open water swims with them already! great fun...too bad i have been tooo busy to do more with them, but i did venture out on my own a couple days this week.... stress o fmoving takes precidence.
and the icing on the cake! i decided to start school..at URI, for my DNP....why not, right? everyone is doing it...we shall see....
i also found that i may very well be working in sports med here..with ocs students and what have you...NOT TOO SHABBY
i guess this has been a great move so far. no complaints, but it hasn't gotten cold and rainy yet!
